How to Maintain Your Zero-Turn Mower

How to Maintain Your Zero-Turn Mower

Simple seasonal maintenance tips to extend the life of your mower and ensure consistent performance.

1. Check and Change the Oil

Just like a car, your zero-turn mower’s engine needs clean oil to run smoothly. Check the oil level before each mowing season and change it after every 50 hours of use, or at least once a year. Use the oil type recommended by the manufacturer.

2. Clean or Replace Air Filters

A clogged air filter reduces engine performance and fuel efficiency. Inspect the filter regularly and clean or replace it as needed, especially after dusty mowing sessions.

3. Sharpen the Blades

Sharp blades are key to a clean cut. Dull blades tear the grass, leaving it vulnerable to disease. Sharpen the blades every 20–25 hours of use or whenever you notice ragged cuts.

4. Inspect the Tires

Uneven tire pressure can lead to an uneven cut. Check tire pressure monthly and inflate them to the levels recommended in your mower's manual.

5. Grease All Moving Parts

Lubricating the spindles, wheel bearings, and other moving parts keeps everything running smoothly and prevents wear and tear. Use a quality grease and follow your maintenance chart.

6. Clean the Deck

After each mowing session, remove any built-up grass clippings and debris under the deck. This prevents rust and maintains optimal airflow for efficient cutting.

Regular maintenance isn’t just about performance — it’s about protecting your investment.
